MEI AMMI

MEI AMMI
MEI AMMI (Heb. מֵי עַמִּי), kibbutz in central Israel, in the Iron Hills of Samaria, affiliated with Ha-No'ar ha-Ẓiyyoni, founded in 1963 as a Naḥal\>\> outpost on the pre-1967 Jordanian border. In August 1967 a civilian group took over the village, whose construction – including the reclamation of its hilly land – was aided by the Jewish community of Miami, Florida. Accordingly, the name chosen, meaning "Water of My People," is similar in sound to Miami. In the mid-1990s, the population was approximately 185, increasing to 208 in 2002. (Efraim Orni)
